Over time it is established that during armed conflicts men and women suffer severe consequences. Insecurity often leads to forced migration, long-term refugee problems, and the destruction of infrastructure. Social, political and economic institutions can be permanently damaged. While the impacts are faced by all,
countless women and girls all over the world suffer from the trauma of insecurity often as widows or orphans, perhaps displaced from their homes, sometimes even detained. It is therefore important to protect women's rights before, during and after conflict.
