EATING LATE AT NIGHT: A BAD HABIT
The thought of
being hungry at night is almost a thought like the day will never dawn. When people
feel hungry, it is only but normal to have the urge of eating but when you are hungry
at night, it’s better to resist than give in to eating because the health risk
are enormous;
-While it retards weight loss, it
also causes weight increase
-Rise in Cholesterol and
triglyceride levels
-Changes in Appetite: There is a hormone called ghrelin, which lets you know when it's
time to eat. Daytime eaters have peaks of this hormone early in the day. There is also
another hormone called leptin, which
makes you feel full. For the daytime eaters, that hormone peaked later in the
day.
-Increases the risk to insulin resistance,
pre-diabetes, diabetes Type 2 and heart disease.
-It
affects the circadian system, which has an adverse effect on the brain’s
ability of learning, concentration
and even memorizing.
-The pressure of metabolizing food at night can result
in the loosening of the Lower Esophageal Sphincter, allowing the undigested
food and stomach acids to travel back up the esophagus (acid reflux).
-It
is usually linked to eating disorders, an unprecedented night food cravings
-Increased risk of heart attack
-Increased high blood pressure as the body stays on alert, producing more stress hormones like
adrenaline, and that elevates blood pressure.
-Bad
sleep, as eating too late at night will have you tossing and turning.
Health is wealth, put your night eating habit on
check and enjoy the health benefits.
